Iberron is the name given to the western mainland continent of Iora. Iberron is home to the great kingdoms of man. The geography of Iberron is dominated by the Godswood and Loc Sanctiad. Most major cities can be found on the coast, with several existing farther inland along the rivers of the eight which flow outward from Loc Sanctiad to the ocean.

Geography & Culture

The North

The North of Iberron is bounded by the Kyana river in the west and stretches south to Crellsport in the east. The north is a generally colder climate and can see some snow accumulation in the colder months. The Northwestern region of the north is a moderate density forest surrounding Dinas Goedwig, the only Elven city left in the modern era. Northern terrain is in general hilly with large valleys being used as premium farmland.

Northerners see themselves as more rugged and close to the old ways than those that live farther south. The northern ethos is one of hard work, honesty, and determination. This is why many in the north choose Geros as their favored aspect of the nine. Due to the presence of Dinas Goedwig and the proximity to Drefedd many cities in the north are rather ethnically diverse, consisting of the three major races living in relative harmony. All three races tend to trade openly with eachother and it’s not uncommon to find elven goods in human cities or vice-versa.

The Westlands

The borders of the Westlands stretch northwards to the Kyana river and south to the first bend of the Symos river. The west has a very temperate climate with heavy rainfall flowing in off the ocean. The land is mostly flat grassland with occasional stretches of hilly terrain. The West is the smallest geographical region in Iberron and as such has traditionally only contained one major kingdom.

Westerners pride themselves on neutrality, temperance, and valor. Throughout the ages many conflicts have ensued between the north and south leaving the westlands right in the middle of conflict. Due to this westerners value a sense of defense strongly and generally aren’t prone to rush into conflict. Westerners greatly value their independence and can enjoy relative self sustainability due to fertile lands and vast resources of silver and iron that they use in both building and trading. The west is primarily human, yet does see sizeable populations of elves moving south along the coast.

The South

The western border of The South runs as a straight line out from the first bend of the Symos river. Eastwards the traditional border has been the Dimus river and Boulaís, but in the current day is seen following the northeast until the first bend of the Dimus due to the Praviel-Boulaís alliance. The southlands are large fertile flatlands and the kingdoms and duchies of the south produce over 70% of the continent’s grain supply traded abroad. There is a sizeable swampland in the southern part of the region near the Symos delta stretching all the way east to the Cragg.

Southerners see themselves as the most industrious and oppertunistic. The ethos of the south could be described as "more, bigger, better. They are always looking to improve on themselves and become as prosperous as they can be. Southerners put intense focus on diplomatic and military might. Many of the old Empire’s best diplomats and generals came from the south. Southerners also enjoy being individuals. People very openly express themselves however they see fit and as such the culture is a relatively open one so long as you’re human. Due to their distance from any other-kith strongholds, and common raiding from the wood elves of the Godswood, racial tension is a bit stronger in the south than in most of the rest of the continent. Elves and Dwarves are looked upon as outsiders or minorities and half-elfs are looked at as a mixed race and often looked down upon. Halflings are somewhat common in the south due to many villages and hamlets in the southeast that live in relative peace and quiet.

Kingdom of Naselia

The Crownlands

The Crownlands, also referred to as The East, runs north to Crellsport and south to the first bend of the Dimus river. Historically the border extended all the way down to Boulaís, yet has shrank since the beginning of the Third Era. The crownlands themselves are somewhat lacking in natural resources, excluding large deposits of Marble and Blackstone in its western reaches. Most farming happens along the banks of the Gazdis river, which is the largest individual river of the eight that span the continent.

The people of the crownlands are diverse and have no real defining characteristics. The largest city in both the region and the continent, Oldyron is the most ethnically diverse city in all of Iora. Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Gnomes, and even Dragonborn can be found residing within the menacing blackstone walls of Oldyron. The crownlands do, however, have the smallest population living outside of the city, with almost 70% of all inhabitants living within half a day’s travel of the city’s walls.

The Dawn Age est. 2500 years

It is said that in the Dawn Age the gods themselves inhabited the continent, gazing upon their creation. It was during this time that the first dwarves and elves came to be, and inherited the continent spreading across the land building the first cities and towns. In this time the world was peaceful, even dragons coexisted with the kith in harmony. Many dwarven and elven cultures tell stories of legendary builders, warriors, and thinkers that all hail from the dawn age. The end of the dawn age is signified by the gods creation of Humans.

The FIrst Era est. 800 years

The First Era saw the rapid spread and growth of the human race. At first humans lived in small villages and as tribal hunter gatherer societies in the south. As they grew in number people began to specialize. Humans gained farmer and thinkers and warriors. Through this rapid growth and advancement humans learned the world through experience, rather being gifted the knowledge from the gods. All this growth led to the establishment of the first human kingdoms located somewhere along the southern coast of Iberron. These humans realized that as they grew in number so grew their need for territory. Humans set out to conquer the land from the old races that inhabited the land. Throughout the course of several hundred years humanity slowly pushed back the other races into the lands where they now reside. The end of the first era is seen as when Tytos Shieldbreaker was coronated as the first king of the Empire of Iberron.

The Second Era 358 years

The Second Era, also known as the Era of Man, saw the advancement of humanity to the world rulers they are known of today. This era was also the birth of major political conflicts between humans. As mankind settled into their cities and castles, individual rulers began to feud and demand more land for themselves. These tensions culminated in the Blood War, when two sons of the Shieldbreaker line fought each other directly for the throne and pulled the entire continent into war. The fighting was for naught, as the two sons and several other family members died in the Battle of the Dimus, ending the Shieldbreaker line and signaling the beginning of the third era.
